Coal mines of Dara Adam Khel

Sheni Kali road

                                                        Only road open for traffic

Hundreds of coal mine workers in Dara Adam Khel few months ago were visible on road side, their clothes, faces and bodies soaked in black carbon were making them unidentifiable, only wide eyes and white teeth were visible on their carbon soaked faces in case of occasional smiles, that scene has been changed now, roadside coal mines are still there in Dara Adam Khel, one can see the trucks standing near coal mines in plain areas but the workers are missing, a Malik from Akhurwal Dara Adam Khel says ‘On distribution of income of Dara Adam Khel coal mines share holders have developed differences now work in coal mines has been stopped. Hundreds of families in troubled tribal area of Dara Adam Khel are without income now, many children have died with diseases their parents can not afford to provide them medical treatment because, of poverty.

When I asked the Malik and share holder of Akhurwal coal mines that whether he will ever arrange proper kits, helmets and other security measures for coal mines workers to improve their working conditions the literate Malik has said yes I’ll do that and will search on the internet to buy all this stuff.

During past one month Dara Adam Khel tribal region which is situated between Peshawar and Kohat has witnessed one suicide bomb attack on a market in which twenty people have lost their lives, a source says two Pakistan Army vehicles were also attacked by miscreants in Sheni Kali area of Dara Adam Khel, after the said attack security forces have blocked the road passing through bazaar of Dara Adam Khel, the only newly built  road which links Southern districts with Northern districts of KPK is open for traffic and on check post before Kohat Tunnel sometimes long queues of vehicles can be witnessed now on it.

After the arrival of Governor KPK Barrister Syed Masud Kausar in power, law and order situation in Dara Adam Khel has been improved Kohat Friendship Tunnel which was under attack of militants and was often closed for traffic now is secure and has been repaired from inside, prompt security measures are taken to ensure secure passage from the said tunnel. A Malik says that security forces have intervened to settle dispute regarding income of share holders from coal mines and this issue will also get settled soon.

Taxi cabs

I came across uncle Ghulam Mustafa near Kohat bus stand on Thursday, after coming down from coach I was looking for a taxi cab to reach my office when he came near me in his taxi cab, when I looked inside his taxi cab the cab was quite clean, Uncle Mustafa while sitting on a driving seat has smiled like God Father and has asked my destination, I told my office location to him and have enquired about fare(we don’t have meters in taxi cabs here in Peshawar) while looking towards me into his thick and transparent mirrors of his glasses he had replied confidently two hundred rupees, my reply to him was that I am not a stranger here and he must charge the fare of university town from me and not of Hayatabad, from Kohat bus stand to university town reasonable fare is 120 rupees only, after bringing one another God fatherly smile on his lips Uncle Ghulam Mustafa had delivered his final verdict ‘ok 150 rupees will be enough’ while sitting in his taxi cab when he had asked for selection of road I told him from Sadar side, he had insisted no from Ring road we will move towards university town,  while looking at his glasses I told him it is dangerous to travel on Ring road today (because of his awfully weak eyesight I was reluctant to travel towards my office on his suggested road because near Landi Arbab road was situated along the water canal, keeping his weak eyesight in view traveling on his suggested road was definite fall in cold and dirty water of canal)  suddenly Ghulam Mustafa became alert, what is the danger sir, he had asked me in English, to avoid his annoyance I replied to him I am not allowed to use same road every day to avoid any possible danger, and have politely I advised him ‘do as I say’.

While crossing the main road in his taxi cab in Peshawar Sadar Uncle Ghulam Mustafa had made a sudden move and had refused to pay any heed to moving speedy vehicles towards his tax cab on the said road, consequently a driver having Taliban outlook had to use break of his van to avoid collision with Ghulam Mustafa’s Taxi cab. Ghulam Mustafa had looked towards the driver of van and had said some angry words and declared him responsible of violation, I advised him politely to keep on moving because the main road has been blocked with his action besides I had to reach office in time.

While moving on university road with him in his taxi cab I found Ghulam Mustafa a very informative and interesting person whom is able to speak English fluently and can analyze the current security related issues in favor of the west. While coming down from his taxi cab in front of my office gate I had offered him a cup of tea which he had refused politely but promised to take it with me one day.

Interestingly he was the only taxi cab driver whom was quite literate and polite, during last thirteen months I have used almost each and every taxi cab available near Kohat bus station in Peshawar, and I found Ghulam Mustafa best among all the taxi cab drivers, others are also quite good and efficient.
